From Paper Checks to Digital Ease
Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution (TXDAR) had long relied on a paper-based system for collecting dues and contributions which required chapters to mail checks monthly. This process was inefficient and led to delays, lost payments, and a lot of manual work for Kathy Crusco, the state treasurer. For each check received, she had to endorse, deposit, track, and often follow up to reconcile records. On top of that, storing all this documentation created a physical and mental clutter that distracted from more impactful tasks.
“Before I became state treasurer in July, the only way chapters could pay their dues was by sending a check. We were receiving up to 100 small checks a month. It was inefficient and time-consuming.”
Kathy Crusco,
State Treasurer, TXDAR
Switching to Cheddar Up helped the organization leave all that behind. By moving collections online, TXDAR eliminated the paper trail, gained real-time visibility into payments, and created a faster, more reliable experience for its chapters. It gave Kathy the ability to organize state dues and contributions by collection, set deadlines, and even automate communications. This transformation wasn’t just about saving time. It was about modernizing how an organization operates in the digital age.
Custom Collections for Every Event
What started as a solution for collecting dues quickly expanded into a complete platform for managing TXDAR’s financial interactions. Kathy created collections for everything from raffle tickets to event RSVPs. With customizable fields and the ability to track each transaction, it was easy to separate payments by purpose and assign them to the right reports. This made it simple to balance the books, plan events, and offer full transparency to other leadership.
The state’s online store became another standout. Instead of manually managing merchandise, Kathy used Cheddar Up to display available items, set shipping options, and collect payments. Volunteers embraced the change too, especially when it came to event sales. During the state conference, tap-to-pay mobile codes allowed different booths to accept payments using nothing more than their phones. It was quick, clean, and eliminated the need for multiple hardware setups or petty cash reconciliation.
“We created an online store for our regent’s merchandise and collected donations, sold raffle tickets, and even merged exported data into Avery templates to print physical tickets.”

“It’s made my life so much easier. We’re officially moving all our stores over from Square to Cheddar Up this fall.”

Time Saved = Mission Advanced
In a volunteer-run organization, time is one of the most precious resources. Cheddar Up helped TXDAR get a lot of it back. From handling over 2,000 transactions to exporting reports in just a few clicks, Kathy saved roughly 40 hours over a nine-month period. That’s a full work week redirected toward supporting chapters, hosting meetings, and thinking strategically instead of sorting paperwork.
Beyond time savings, the ease of use meant more people could get involved. New chapter leaders and volunteers found the platform intuitive, allowing them to create collections and manage payments without needing deep training. For an organization with rotating leadership, that simplicity is invaluable. It ensures continuity, reduces onboarding time, and keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes — something Kathy sees as critical to TXDAR’s long-term success.
