The LPL Scholarship is supported by contributions from local PTA units, councils and friends of PTA. It is named for Lucille Putnam Leonard, a past State and National PTA President, to honor her memory for distinguished service to the PTA. For the past 18 years, the Rhode Island PTA has awarded LPL Scholarships to various qualified high school students from PTSA High Schools in our state. Money for these scholarships comes from the Lucille Putnam Leonard Fund, established to honor Mrs. Lucille Putnam Leonard, the only National PTA President from Rhode Island. Established in 1955, the LPL fund originally supported a college loan program. In the best interest of our students, this was changed to a scholarship program in 1997.
