What is Cheddar Up?

Cheddar Up simplifies collecting for organizers. It’s a payment and tracking toolset that helps collect both payment and information and can be used for almost anything.

What are the fees?

Collecting on Cheddar Up is always free. Payers pay a convenience fee of 3.5% plus $0.45. If your community needs more payment options, you can enable a second payment method – echeck (electronic bank transfer). This comes with a flat convenience fee of $0.45 per transaction. You can enable echeck within Collection Settings. If preferred, collectors can always choose to cover the processing fees by selecting that option within Collection Settings. As a collector, if you want access to optional advanced features, you can choose to upgrade to our PRO or TEAM plans for a low monthly fee.

What does “Cheddar” mean?

Cheddar is slang for money. Who knew!?

Is Cheddar Up secure?

Extremely. All Cheddar Up users' financial-related information and data is encrypted and sent directly to the processor using Transport Layer Security (TLS) (Cheddar Up never sees or stores this information).

Why do you need my DOB (Date of Birth)?

As part of federal "Know Your Customer" regulations, we need to gather some basic information about account holders on Cheddar Up. This helps us ensure that you are an honest-to-goodness person. And, in order to transfer collected funds to an organizer’s account, we must collect the minimum information of full name, date of birth and last four of SSN. Please note that this does not need to be the person who opened the bank account or even the person directly tied to the bank account. It simply needs to be the person managing the Cheddar Up account. It's also important that the date of birth matches the first and last name on the account. If for some reason, we are unable to verify your identity with the minimum amount of information, we may need to request more information.

Will I need to give my SSN (Social Security Number)?

In order to verify the identity of our collectors, federal regulations require that we gather some basic information from the person managing your Cheddar Up account. This typically includes full name, address, date of birth and the last four of SSN. On occasion, if we are unable to verify your identity based on these minimum data points, or if you've collected a large sum, we may need to collect a full SSN. If this is the case, please know that Cheddar Up never sees or has access to this information. Instead, it is immediately passed securely to our payment processor and is only used to verify your identity. If it were up to us, we'd collect as little information as possible. You can be assured that if we request full SSN, it is only because our processor is unable to verify your identity based on the minimal information provided. And the processor is requesting it due to federal "Know Your Customer" regulations. When you enter the last four of your SSN, please know that it should match the first and last name on the Cheddar Up account. If it doesn't match, then we will have trouble verifying your identity and will need to request more information.

Why is some of my money still pending?

If you are showing that some of your collected funds are "pending", this means that while someone has paid you, the funds are still being processed and are not yet ready for withdrawal. If someone pays you via a credit card, those funds are usually available for withdrawal within 1-2 business days. If someone pays you via echeck, it can take up to 3-5 business days for these funds to be available for withdrawal.

I’m going to be collecting a large amount of money on Cheddar Up, is that okay?

Yes. We have many schools and organizations that use Cheddar Up and collect significant amounts of money. We have a technical limitation on amounts over $999,999.99, though we don't impose any other limitations.

How do I get the money that I collected via Cheddar Up?

It’s easy. Once you’re done collecting, simply click “Withdraw”. You can do this from a number of places, including your Manage screen, My Tabs view, or from the global withdraw feature available in your top navigation. You can withdraw any time, and as many times as you’d like.

How do I refund someone who has paid on my collection?

Easy. Just email friendlysupport@cheddarup.com and let us know the tab name, payer name, item name, and the amount that needs to be refunded and we’ll handle the rest (including sending a confirmation email to you and the payer). You can also look forward to this process being automated and in your control, in the near future.

My organization told me there were special tools that I could use to create a collection. How do I find them?

From our home page, just click on “Sign Up” in the upper right. From there, click on “Partner Access” and select your organization from the drop-down menu. This will prompt you to register from one of our partner organization sign-up pages. This will give you access to special collection tools specific to your organization. If you’re already a registered user and need access to these tools but don’t want to create a new account, just email us at friendlysupport@cheddarup.com and let us know what you’re looking for and we’ll take care of it.

Do I need to be a registered Cheddar Up user to pay a collection?

No. Anyone can pay a collection even if they are not registered for Cheddar Up via our “pay as a guest” option. With this option, we only need your name and email address, which allows us to track that you’ve paid and send you a confirmation email.

Can I create a collection with multiple amounts (or items)?

Yes! The ability to create a collection with multiple amounts (or items) means that you can use Cheddar Up to collect for almost anything—a sample sale, school registration, t-shirts, fun runs, teacher gifts, event registrations, class reunions, monthly dues...the list goes on.

Can I track cash or check payments on Cheddar Up?

Yes. We know that despite your best interests, some people may still want to pay you with cash or a check. We have features to accommodate this.

1. First, if you want to give people the option to pay with cash or a check, you can enable this third payment option on your collection page. You’ll see this option when you create or edit your collection within the Collection Settings view.

2. If someone opts to pay via cash or check, we have features on your Payment manage view that allow you to record whether or not you have received it. This means no more tracking offline payments with a separate spreadsheet.

3. Let’s say someone proactively pays you with a check and skips your awesome online page altogether? We have you covered here too. Just click “Add Payment” on your manage view and you’ll be able to record that payment alongside your online payments.

Can Cheddar Up be used internationally?

Currently, money collected on Cheddar Up can be withdrawn into either a US or Canada bank account.

Can I collect extra information when people pay my collection?

Yes. That’s one of the beautiful things about Cheddar Up – it’s not just about payments. It allows you to collect all that extra information that comes with being an organizer or seller. You can do this two ways – by adding a question to an item (e.g., tshirt size, name of registrant, etc.), or by adding a separate form (with as many fields as necessary) to your collection page. This flexibility is what allows you to use Cheddar Up to collect for almost anything.

Can I customize my collection?

Yes. When creating a collection, you have the option to add an image to your collection page to personalize it. You can also add your “organization name” within Account Settings, which allows you to customize your profile image that also appears on your collection page

Can I attach a file or receipt to my collection?

Yes. You can attach a file to your collection page within your Collection Settings. Simply click “add attachments”, browse to find the image on your computer, and it will then be uploaded and available for people to view or download from your collection page.

Who pays the fees?

When you create a tab on Cheddar Up, by default, fees are passed on to the payer. However, you also have the option to absorb fees. You can turn on this feature within Collection Settings. Simple as that...you have total control!

What are your payment methods?

You can accept payment via credit card, echeck or cash/check. You can turn on these different payment methods within your Collection Settings.
